OUTSTANDING SINCE ‘66

OUR HISTORY
& FUTURE

In 1966 Cliff Valley School was established as a progressive, cooperative preschool and kindergarten with the goal of nurturing children to become confident, independent learners and responsible, caring members of the community. Cliff Valley School’s expansion beyond kindergarten began in 2000, driven by the desires of its families to have their children continue their high-quality education at the school.

In 2004 our renowned school constructed a new building using earth-friendly materials, with facilities for environmental education (inside and out), state-of-the-art security, a library/media center, meeting facilities, and much more. The school was designed around the students’ needs and the school’s philosophy, to construct a warm, friendly environment that fosters creativity and development.

In 2010-11 we added two new buildings to our campus that include additional classroom and administrative space, a science lab, a dedicated music room, and a gymnasium with a stage for performing arts. Program growth over the years was intentionally slow, deliberate, and focused on quality.

INCLUSION & DIVERSITY

Cliff Valley was founded in 1966 as an inclusive school and community that valued diversity. Our commitment to these values continues to this day. Here is how we think about those two important ideas:

Inclusion refers to the practice of making all members of an organization feel welcome and giving them equal opportunity to connect, belong, and grow – to contribute to the organization, advance their skills, and feel comfortable and confident being themselves.

Diversity refers to the traits and characteristics that make people unique – characteristics, seen and unseen, that people were born with or have acquired. These characteristics may include their sex, race, sexual preference, ethnicity, religious views, political views, disabilities, socio-economic status, and more.

While diversity highlights differences, we see that as a starting point, not the end. We focus on where we go from there, what we have in common, how we treat others, our character traits, and how we can come together and be in community together.

A keystone of our mission statement is our caring community environment — our commitment to creating a welcoming, inclusive school community. We value diversity in our faculty, staff, students, and parents, and our commitment to being inclusive is intentional and ongoing. We don’t just hope to be diverse and inclusive, we actively work to be so.
