ADMISSIONS

Thank you for considering Cliff Valley for your child’s education. We understand that choosing a path for your child’s education is an important family decision. We are here to assist in the process in any way you need.

Questions about the admissions process, Ravenna, or Cliff Valley in general? Please contact Director of Admissions Megan Vitale; she’ll be happy to help!

PROCESS

  • The early decision timeline is for families who feel certain that Cliff Valley is their top choice and who will accept an offer if one is extended.

Early decision candidates receive admission notification in early March and have the opportunity to secure placement before regular timeline offers are made. The regular timeline notification is in early April.

Offers are extended when a student meets the admissions criteria and a space is available. You’ll find a checkbox on the application if you’d like to select this option for your family.

  • We use Ravenna for our online application process. Ravenna helps you handle and track all admissions materials online, and it’s very easy to use. You’ll create a Ravenna account (if you don’t already have one), and then you’ll be ready to apply your student to Cliff Valley. Applications for the 2023-24 school year will be available on October 1st.

If choosing early decision, you’ll find a checkbox on the application to select this option.

  • You’ll also use Ravenna for this part of the process.

  • Student Assessment Visits for PreK through 6th grade applicants will be held on Thursday, February 15 according to the schedule on the calendar. Closer to the event you will be contacted with additional details.

Student Assessment Visits for applicants to the 3-year-old program or 7th grade will be scheduled individually for a weekday morning in February. The Cliff Valley admissions team will reach out to parents to schedule these visits.

How we think aBout tuition

It's no secret that independent school is expensive. We respect the investment our families make in Cliff Valley and we act accordingly.

  • We consider it our responsibility to keep tuition moderate. Our highest tuition level (for grades K-8) is well below that of comparable area schools.

  • We raise tuition as little as possible. Each year the board of trustees sets tuition, and recent tuition increases have been from 0 to 2 percent.

  • Our tuition is all inclusive. We don’t have book fees, technology fees, administrative fees, etc.

  • We are proud to offer financial assistance to qualifying families, and we do this thanks in part to the generous support of the Cliff Valley community.

ADMISSIONS POLICY

Cliff Valley seeks students of average to high ability who can contribute to and benefit from our educational program. All students applying to the school are screened to assess their readiness for the program. Students are selected for admission on the basis of multiple factors, including academic potential, school achievement, and behavior.

In all cases, the school retains the right to determine, at its sole discretion, whether or not to select a student for admission or to re-enroll a student. The admissions committee makes recommendations to the head of school, who has ultimate authority and sole discretion in the decision whether or not to admit or re-enroll a student. When there are more qualified candidates than openings available, the school establishes an unranked waiting list. If any openings occur, the admissions committee decides which candidate(s) to offer a position based on the overall profile of the class and the match between the needs and qualifications of the student and the needs of the school. Cliff Valley School is committed to having a diverse student population. It is the policy of the school not to discriminate in violation of the law on the basis of race, sex, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, ancestry, or disability which is unrelated to the ability to enjoy the benefits of the school’s programs, facilities, or services. All persons are encouraged to apply.
